I Want to Volunteer!

Please let us know soon so we can get you set up with the necessary documents like a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Here are some key areas where we could use your help:

  • Ushers - FBC is in need of ushers to ensure we can accommodate our increasing attendance. Please contact Dave/Rosemary Hisey and email drhisey@shaw.ca Training will be provided.
  • Bible Quizzing - There are many roles open in this ministry. One of our chief needs is simply for verse listeners. This would involve coming to practice and listening to our Quizzers quote their verses, making sure they’re correct and signing off once they get it. Contact Pastor Joshua if you can lend a hand.
  • Kids Ministry - Whether you want to be in the thick of it as a teacher, or help upstairs with check-in, there’s a spot for you! Contact Pastor Theo to discuss what role you might play.
  • AV - Our sound and computer people play an important role in our Sunday services, even if unseen. If you’re interested in taking on some slots, please contact Pastor Theo

Last Week's Message

"Every False Refuge Will Fail"
| Aaron Visser Micah 1:2-7

We often like to admire God’s judgment from afar. We can imagine why that person should receive it, but we like to think that such words of holy anger can’t be directed at us. Micah shows us that we shouldn’t be so presumptuous, as he prophesies not only against the idolatrous northern kingdom of Israel, but also the southern kingdom of Judah. Their temple and king would not absolve them, and likewise, our own refuges cannot absolve us. Not money, not prestige, not religious activity. Only one refuge can save: Jesus Christ.

Last Week's Message "The Word We Do Not Want to Hear" | Aaron Visser Micah 2:6-11 Have you ever wanted to take a black marker to some parts of the Bible? Or do you feel fear and anger rise up when a preacher speaks a little too pointedly and close to home? God’s Word has a way of confronting each and every one of us, and our temptation is to silence any voice that rebukes us. Often we would prefer the preacher who just tells us what we want to hear. But the God of justice will not overlook those who get trampled by our sin, and His Word calls us to repentance. May we then receive His Word, even when it exposes the sin we want to keep. Is it haughtiness when you see another fall? Or is it brokenness? Even as Christians who stand forgiven, we must not forget the sight of what sin cost as we look at Jesus’ cross. That should move us, grieve us, and make a permanent impression on our perspective. We need not despair, because there is mercy. But we should also take sin seriously enough to grieve the judgment it deserves. Would you still want that if He spoke about your sin, confronted your idols, and called you to greater faithfulness? We tend to like God’s Word as long as it doesn’t challenge us, but that is precisely what we need! When God sent His prophet Micah, it was with a heavy word. But that itself is grace, because God warns before He punishes. So, even if it’s uncomfortable, let us pay heed to His Word and especially how God has ultimately spoken: through His Son, Jesus Christ. Last Week's Message "Redemption Greater Than Our Sin" | Aaron Visser Psalm 130 Throughout this life, various trials can make us feel as if we are in the depths. But no depth is greater than the one we feel when we recognize our sin in light of God’s holiness. If God were to keep a record of our sins, we would have no hope. But with God, in Christ, there is forgiveness. That is why we can serve God, and that is why even when the night feels long, we can still look to God with confidence, because we know the morning of our full redemption is coming. Last Week's Message "Where Is Wisdom Found?" | Aaron Visser Job 28 We all face trials that rock us and bring us low. In these moments, we long for an explanation. Why is this happening? Why me? But what if an explanation isn’t really what we need? In Job 28, we are challenged with a different notion. Wisdom, we are taught, is not knowing why we suffer, but rather fearing the God who does know why. He alone can show us the way to this true wisdom. But unless we know God and know ourselves, any wisdom we claim is vain. Psalm 90 reveals the majesty of the eternal God, and frailness of us as sinful mortals. Though it’s not something we like to reflect on, considering our inevitable death is the key to living wisely in this world. And beyond that, we have hope because the eternal God took on a human nature and died for us, so that we might live and do works that will last into eternity. Last Week's Message "The Danger of Distraction" | Ron Halliday Psalm 73 Life comes at us rapidly and with many difficulties. When this inevitably happens, where do you turn? What keeps you steady? In Psalm 73, we find a man weighed down by distractions. The wicked seem to prosper, and serving God seems to be in vain. But being in God’s presence with God’s people proves to be the answer. Whatever distractions you find in your life, you can find solace in God’s sanctuary too. Last Week's Message "Headed for Judgment" | Bryan McIver Jude 11-16 When you hear “judgment,” what’s the first thing that comes to your mind? Commonly, we associate fear and unpleasantness with the word. But though those aren’t wrong, something we often miss is that God’s judgment is a blessing too. It is designed for the protection and care of God’s people. In this section of Jude, we see how God blesses His people by working to root out false teachers from their midst for good. Last Week's Message "Warning Signs" | Bryan McIver Jude 1-10 Sometimes, something is serious enough to make us change course. This is where Jude found himself as he prepared to write his letter. He wanted to write in celebration of the Gospel, but the presence of false teachers necessitated a response. In this passage, we find warning signs that we’ve been infiltrated. The call for us is the same as for those back then: contend for the faith. Last Week's Message "How to Respond to Gospel Confusion and Opposition" | Pastor Joshua Chretien Acts 14:8-23 What has your experience been like when you’ve shared the Gospel? Chances are you’ve come across a lot of varied responses. Some don’t understand, some object, and some believe. Clearly, predictability is not something we can count on.
